Self-Care
Let's talk self-care! I'm sure you hear frequently how important taking time for yourself really is. The thing is, it doesn't have to be some huge indulgent activity to be self-care! Most mornings, I sit in my chair with my coffee at some point. This is part of my self-care routine because it's something I love to do, and it brings me joy! I sip coffee, enjoy the morning light and cozy up with a blanket.
So do you have self-care scheduled into your daily life?! If you don't, you should! If we don't take time for ourselves, we end up with more stress and more burnout. I especially notice that if I don't take care of myself, I get sick. My body literally shuts me down and says, TAKE CARE OF YOU!! So instead of getting sick often, I listened and incorporated small things into my daily life and bigger things occasionally. This makes me happier, less stressed, and I have more patience for my kids.
Self-care is going to look different for everyone. Some people get up early, some stay up late. Some run, some sip coffee. There is no right answer. The question really is, what makes YOU happy? And, what makes you feel good?
Another aspect of a self-care routine is not what makes you happy, but also, what makes you healthier? One question I ask myself is "How can I take care of myself now, so that I prevent pain/injury/disease later?" My answers (massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, eating healthy and movement) are also part of my self-care!
Basically, your self-care routine should encompass your mental, emotional and physical well being.
My self-care routine:
Sip Coffee
Movement (yoga, walking, etc.)
Eat healthy (it's a work in progress)
Massage Therapy
Chiropractic Adjustments
Reading
Writing in a journal, especially as an emotional/mental release
Dates (with friends, with my husband)
The list could go on, and some are more regular then others.
Self-Care is important. How can you be your best self if you aren't running at your best?! Your kids will have a better mom, your husband a better wife, you could be a better boss, or employee. It doesn't take much, just a few minutes in some cases. Start with what you love to do, and go from there.
I hope this encourages you to start/revamp your self-care routine. I would love to know, what made your list?! Comment below!
